4^th December 2018 – Gluten Free Prescribing Restricted to Bread & Mixes ONLY!

Dear PharmaPlus Member,

GPs will no longer be able to prescribe a majority of gluten-free foods from 4^th December 2018, with the exception of breads and mixes.

Revisions have been made to Part XV (the ‘ACBS list’) and Part XVIIIA (the ‘Blacklist’) of the December 2018 Drug Tariff to reflect this change.

You will not be able to submit and claim payment for any restricted items on or after 4th December 2018.

Actions you MUST take:

Dispense & submit for payment any outstanding GF prescriptions in NOVEMBER
Refer back any patients presenting prescriptions for restricted items in December
Inform patients of the changes to gluten free prescribing
Arrange to meet and update the GP / Practice Manager on the changes as well as agree the patient referral process. Share the list of allowed products.
Review your stock levels
Consider how to sell the products rather than refer to the supermarkets
