Funding Settlement 2018/19

The PSNC has today announced agreement with the government for pharmacy payments for 2018-19 full year.

In a nutshell funding will remain broadly the same level as we have had during the past 12 months. We will get a small dip from Nov 18 to Mar 19 due to further Cat M (£10m PCM) cuts and Activity fee dropping by 3p. I think a pharmacy doing 7000 items will lose about £1000 PCM in the payment received from Jan 19 (Nov 18 month end) based on the payments received in recent months.

Looks like the government are not keen to make any big changes this year (down or up). I guess given it is barely coping with Brexit it does not have much capacity to change anything.

Hopefully with the new CEO at the PSNC , the promised extra £20B for the NHS and more time to plan ahead next year we may see a more progressive change in how the government intends to use pharmacy to help the NHS deliver extra services. I guess we can only hope however I expect things will remain tight for a while. Important for us to focus on what we can control for now - Items growth through EPS, Services maximised esp NMS & Flu and QP4 fully delivered in Feb 18.
