PQS - Return of unwanted and used inhalers criterion

Dear Member,

We will be breaking down your tasks for the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) and the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF). This email is the first of many chunks to come, we recommend you stick to our timetable to ensure you are able to manage the workload.

Data collection period: 1st September 2021 to 31st January 2022 – ALL patients prescribed inhalers must be spoken to about the environmental benefits of returning unwanted and used inhalers for the WHOLE period.

What you need to do:
1.   ALL patient-facing pharmacy staff must be trained on the return of unwanted and used inhalers the PSNC briefing which can be used as a training resource – click here to download
2.   Click here to download the patient briefing aid to hand out to patients when discussing return of their inhalers.
3.   Click here to download the data collection form for this period – and record each time a conversation occurs.
4.   ALL patients, carers and representatives prescribed inhalers between 1st September 2021 and 31st January 2022 MUST be spoken to.
5.   For your declaration you will need data on number of staff trained and the total number of conversations which have occurred about returning inhalers.
