IMPORTANT: COVID Cost Claims Guidance

Dear Member,

You are able to claim for your COVID-19 costs incurred between 1st March 2020 and 31st March 2021. The deadline to submit your claims is 15th August 2021.

There are a number of steps along with data and evidence gathering which will need to take place before you are able to make your claim. PharmaPlus will help you by breaking this down into bite size chunks to help make this process more manageable and ensure you have the information to be able to maximise your claim.

The DHSC has set out four categories of COVID-related costs that can be claimed for by contractors:

1. Additional staff costs due to COVID-19;

2. Costs incurred to make premises COVID-19 secure;

3. IT and communication costs to support home working and virtual patient contact; and

4. Notified closures for infection control purposes (maximum 14 days).

COVID Loan Repayment & Category M Purchase Profit Clawback

Cat M from July 21 will be reduced by 16.333 Million PCM. The estimated loss to each pharmacy will vary based on dispensing mix. Typically the pharmacy will lose the following profits from 1st July 21 based on size:

5000 items £950 PCM

7500 Items £1,400 PCM

10000 Items £1,900 PCM

From the 1st Oct 21 to Mar 21 the pharmacy will need to payback the covid loans in 6 equal instalments as per its NHS BSA letter sent last week.

On the 1st Oct 21 the Pharmacy will receive the value of its cost based on the claim it makes before the 15th Aug 21 (assuming the claim is approved and passed for payment).

The next stage which we will send out on Thursday is information on how to gather your data and evidence for your claims. Somethings you will need to consider for this are working with your accountants, assessing payroll, costs associated with implementing social distancing measures, plus more. We will break this down for you in a manageable way to help you further collect your data.
