The next in our series is Risk Management.
You may have read there has been an extension granted for the PQS workload until 30th June 2021– However, we do recommend you get as much under your belts sooner rather than later.
What you need to do:
(a) To be completed by 80% of all registered pharmacy professionals working at the pharmacy.
(b) Must have been completed between 1st April 2018 – 31st March 2020.
2. Must have a new risk review or an update of the previous risk review (from PQS 2019/20) and must include the following (Please see attached template which we have pre-populated with examples):
(a) Recorded reflection on the risk of missing sepsis identification.
- Risk minimisation actions that the pharmacy team has been taking
- Any subsequent actions identified as a result of the reflection
(b) The risk of missing red flag symptoms during OTC consultations.
- Record demonstratable risk minimisation actions that have been taken to mitigate this risk.
3. If you DID NOT complete the risk review for PQS 2019/20, you need to do the following:
(b) Staff must demonstrate they can apply the learning to respond in a safe and appropriate way when it is suspected that someone has sepsis.
(c) Demonstratable evidence that all patient facing staff have understood the alert symptoms to ensure referral of suspected sepsis to a pharmacist.
As always, if you require any further support please contact the PhamaPlus team.
