2) N3 Connection /
EPS
All members who have EPS will have signed an order form which states the core products which make up our EPS service. It is important that members are aware that you are not just simply paying for a broadband line which seems to be the common perception.
Additional to what the order form states, the biggest element of the EPS service is the infrastructure, this is categorised by:
1) Hosted environment – servers to manage the masses of transactable data downloaded to and uploaded every day.
2) Broker services – interpreting messaging from NHS spine into ProScript and producing electronic prescription.
EPS Baseline Services and R2 compliant software per month includes:
• Dedicated phone line
• EMISnet ADSL
• Managed N3 Router
• Antivirus (AV) / Remote diagnostics software (up to 2 Licenses)
• Remote disaster recovery service (Server PC only)
Over the years the strain on this whole infrastructure from the increase in activity (increased prescription, claims and other requests) has meant more and more resources are utilised (service desk, development, testing etc.) whilst the cost of the service has maintained since its inception.
We hope that the above information gives members a flavour of what the EPS service encompasses and you can understand why all this information is not available widely available online or on Proscripts order form.
In essence EPS is a fully managed service from router, broadband, data security, NHS D accreditation and prescription delivery.
