2. Vulnerable patients such as those who qualify for free flu vaccines may not be part of this category even though they may have been advised to stay at home.
3. Patients who qualify for the advanced delivery service should have received a letter or have a flag on their SCR.
4. GPs are able to add and remove patients from this category, if a patient feels they have been missed out of this category they can contact the GP to discuss whether they are suitable for inclusion.
Checks to do before taking on a volunteer for deliveries:
1. The best option remains for a patient to nominate a volunteer on their behalf, however if this is not possible and you feel the need to take on a volunteer we advise you to take care when taking on a volunteer and bear in mind the following -
2. Ensure the volunteer:
a) Has a DBS Check
b) Provides a copy of their ID
c) Is competent to provide the delivery service
d) Ensure you train the volunteer on your processes and have them sign a SOP
e) Keep a log of deliveries made
3. Check if your indemnity insurance provider will cover using volunteers.
4. You can request an NHS Volunteer Responder Via the GoodSam App.
5. Volunteers MUST not deliver CDs in schedule 2 or 3 and you must use your professional judgement to determine whether it is appropriate for schedule 4 and 5.
6. Remember – If you have a volunteer undertaking your deliveries for ‘shielded’ patients you CANNOT claim the £5 advanced delivery fee.
