We advise you to speak to your local surgeries to let them know about the screening you will be conducting and the best referral route for patients.
Foot checks are arranged by the patients GP for those over 12 years usually as part of the annual diabetes check. For children under 12 years we should be providing basic foot care advice. Resource - Diabetes UK ‘Simple steps to healthy feet if you’ve got diabetes’
Eye screening (retinopathy) for all over the age of 12 years are NOT normally carried out at the GP practice. The GP practice refers patients to a single National Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (NDESP) provider who contacts the patient with appointment details.
