RE: GPhC Inspection Changes – Get Your Pharmacy Ready
Dear Member
As of last month,
the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has introduced a new inspection model to enhance patient safety and ensure high pharmacy standards.
Key Changes to Inspections
• Full Inspections – For pharmacies undergoing their
first assessment.
• Focused Inspections – Reviewing 18 key standards within the five GPhC principles, prioritizing areas most commonly not met and those critical to patient safety.
• Escalation – Inspectors
can upgrade a focused inspection to a full one if they identify concerns.
With increased inspection activity and stricter standards, pharmacies must be fully prepared at all times.
The Five GPhC Principles & Key Areas of
Focus
1️⃣ Governance & Risk Management – Clear accountability, risk management, and proper record-keeping.
2️⃣ Staff Competency & Training – Ensuring staff are qualified, well-trained, and empowered to safeguard patient
safety.
3️⃣ Premises & Environment – Maintaining clean, safe, and secure facilities suitable for pharmacy services.
4️⃣ Service Delivery & Medicines Management – Ensuring safe procurement, storage, and disposal of medicines.
5️⃣ Equipment & Facilities – Making sure all equipment is well-maintained, secure, and protects patient confidentiality.
