Dear Member,
To ensure pharmacy staff are fully equipped to provide flu vaccination services, please note the following training requirements and guidelines:
1. Training Requirements:
• Practical Training: All pharmacists and vaccinators must complete practical training in vaccination that aligns with the National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Registered Healthcare Practitioners.
• Face-to-Face Training: Periodic attendance is required for both injection technique and basic life support training. Please email us on info@pharmaplusltd.co.uk if you need to book face-to-face training with our training partner ECG Training. As always, we provide this training for FREE to our members (one per member pharmacy per
year).
2. Training Frequency:
• Refresher Training: Pharmacy owners and vaccinators should assess the need for
refresher training or if ongoing competence can be evidenced without face-to-face sessions.
• Annual Update Training: Vaccinators must undertake annual training to stay current with practice and guidance changes. This can include self-directed learning and online courses.
3. Competence Assessment:
• Documentation: Vaccinators should maintain a portfolio of competency checklists, knowledge test scores, reflective logs, e-learning certificates, and training course attendance certificates.
• Declaration of Competence: Utilise the Vaccination Services DoC from the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education or the UKHSA Flu vaccinator competency assessment tool to demonstrate competence.
4. Training Resources:
• e-Learning for Healthcare Flu Immunisation Course: Available online, this course is developed by UKHSA and NHS England’s eLearning for Healthcare.
