It's crucial to start reviewing your flu plans for the 2024/25 Season. This will ensure you're well-prepared for the upcoming changes.
Some Key changes:
Timing
The JCVI has advised moving the programme's start for most adults to the beginning of October rather than when stock arrives or 1st Sept as in previous years.
As a result, from 1st September
2024, pharmacies will only be able to vaccinate pregnant women, as they are the exception to the advice. The other adult cohorts will be immunised from October 2024, with NHS England to confirm the exact starting date.
Eligible cohorts
There are no changes to the eligible
cohorts for the 2024/25 season.
Funding
The service fee will remain unchanged at £9.58, plus the cost of the vaccine & VAT.
Actions to
take
- Review the new service specification for the 2024/25 Community Pharmacy Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Advanced Service.
- Read the Annual flu letter for 2024/25
- Please review the stock orders you have placed, contact suppliers, make
adjustments if needed, and order the right allowable vaccines and stock to First Line Vaccinations.
- PGD and National Protocol - will be available, so consider training more staff to support you
- Plan holidays accordingly. Remember that October 24 will be challenging, with Pharmacy First's target set to
30 by then and probably a Covid Vac service to be added.
