Part 1- NHS Profile manager Update
For those members who hold the below stock routinely,
please update your NHS profile manager to show that you are a ‘Pharmacy palliative care medication stockholder’.
The deadline is 31st March 2024, however, we strongly suggest that you complete this as soon as possible if you haven’t already.
If you do not stock the above items routinely then you do not have to do anything to your NHS profile manager in relation to this.
The 16 critical medicines for palliative and end of life care are:
• Cyclizine
solution for injection ampoules 50mg/1ml
• Cyclizine tablets 50mg
• Dexamethasone solution for injection ampoules 3.3mg/1ml
• Dexamethasone tablets 2mg
• Haloperidol tablets 500mcg
• Hyoscine butylbromide solution for injection 20mg/1ml
• Levomepromazine solution for injection ampoules 25mg/1ml
• Metoclopramide solution for injection ampoules 10mg/2ml
• Midazolam solution for injection ampoules 10mg/2ml
• Morphine sulfate oral solution 10mg/5ml
• Morphine sulfate solution for injection ampoules 10mg/1ml
• Morphine sulfate solution for injection ampoules 30mg/1ml
• Oxycodone solution for injection ampoules 10mg/1ml
• Oxycodone oral solution sugar free 5mg/5ml
• Sodium chloride 0.9% solution for injection ampoules 10ml
• Water for injections 10ml
Part 2- Action
Plan
An action plan must be in place to state what is to be one if you do not have the above stock or parenteral haloperidol (even if you do not routinely stock these).
You may update the one from PQS 2022/2023
Please include:
- Local pharmacies who hold the above stock routinely
- Details of locally commissioned services where the above stock can be obtained
- Details of
locally commissioned palliative care services, including on-call arrangements.
- Awareness of support services which would be helpful to parent/carers.
