The PSNC /CPE has recommended that community pharmacies should start to offer this service. PharmPlus now recommends all pharmacies get set up for this service too.

The Pharmacy contraception service has now been updated and includes two parts to it:

Tier 1 - Repeat contraception 

Tier 2 - Initiation of contraception. 

We previously sent out a one page guide on all of the training requirements for Tier 1.

We have now updated this one page guide which is attached with the email, which shows all of the training requirements for both tiers.

Members should now review this training and start to get themselves set up for the service if they are not already doing it. 

The service payments are as follows:

A set-up fee of £900 per pharmacy premises paid in instalments as follows: 

• £400 paid on signing up to deliver the service via the NHSBSA’s MYS portal; 
• £250 paid after claiming the first 5 consultations;  
• £250 paid after claiming a further 5 consultations (i.e. 10 consultations completed); and 
• A fee for each consultation of £18. 
• A consultation fee is claimable irrespective of the outcome of the consultation.  

Members who have not started the service need to offer both Tiers 1 & 2 and can NOT offer Tier 1 alone.

Members who have already started the service have until the 28th of February 24 to update their training to include Tier 2 and declare on MYS that they have updated their training and wish to continue, providing both parts of the service. Otherwise they will be decommissioned.

These members can until 28th of February provide the repeat only (Tier 1). However it is in your interest to get started as soon as possible with Tier 2.
