Antimicrobial Stewardship for PQS

The Antimicrobial element is something which should be familiar to you all. 

This is email 1 of 3 covering the antimicrobial stewardship element of PQS. Please note that there should be no patient identifiable information on declaration.

1.  Training

What to do

All patient-facing pharmacy staff that provide advice on medicines must have completed the following within the last three years (between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2024).

• Non-registered pharmacists to complete Infection prevention and control level 1 e-learning and assessment on elFH https://portal.e-lfh.org.uk/Component/Details/564333
• All registered pharmacy professional to complete Infection prevention and control level 2 e-learning and assessment on elFH https://portal.e-lfh.org.uk/Component/Details/564321
• All patient facing staff to complete Antimicrobial Stewardship for community pharmacy e-learning and e-assessment on  https://portal.e-lfh.org.uk/Component/Details/602874

How to claim

On MYS you must claim the total number of staff who have completed the required training which is relevant to their role and the total number who have not completed the training which is relevant to their role.

2.  Safe Disposal

What to do

By the end of 31 March 2024 all pharmacy staff to complete the videos from The Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Please see the link below;

Demonstrate that between 1^st June 2023 and 31^st March 2024 that patients/carers or representatives for who antibiotics have been dispensed have been counselled on benefits of them returning all unwanted antibiotics to a community pharmacy for safe and environmentally friendly disposal.

How to claim

You must declare on MYS:

• the total number of pharmacy staff working in the pharmacy on the day of the declaration who have been trained on safe disposal of antibiotics.
• the total number of pharmacy staff working in the pharmacy on the day of the declaration who have NOT been trained on safe disposal of antibiotics, but will complete this by 31^st March 2024
• The total number of conversations had between 1^st June 2023 and 31^st Marh 2024 with patients, carers or representatives on the reasons safe disposal of antibiotics.
