Covid Vaccination 2023/24 booster programme
Dear Member,
All Pharmacies can opt-in to the service, subject to meeting the minimum requirements.
These are detailed in the
NHSE guidance documents attached, but the following summarises the key points. Pharmacy owners:
- Need to read the Enhanced service specification and be confident that they will be able to meet its requirements, including being able to commence vaccinating within four weeks of notification of contract award or by the start date of the vaccination programme (whichever is
later)
- Must also provide the Flu Vaccination Advanced Service from September 2023 to 31st March 2024
- Must be able to offer at least 100 COVID-19 vaccinations per week
- Be ‘in good standing’ from a regulatory
perspective with the NHS and other organisations such as the General Pharmaceutical Council
Pharmacy owners must also vaccinate eligible housebound/care home patients if requested by NHSE and they may also provide outreach services if agreed with NHSE.
The new EOI process is
being hosted on a new platform.
Pharmacy owners can also express an interest in providing the service from a location away from their pharmacy.
The groups to be offered a COVID-19 booster vaccine are reduced (health 50-64 years olds have been removed) & patient cohorts must be
completed from 7th October 2023 to 15th December 2023.
The service fee is lower £7.54 per jab, a 25% fee decrease imposed by NHS England
Pharmacy owners will need for sufficient space for the administration of vaccines, Adequate fridge space a understanding of the
legal route which will be used for vaccination (Patient Group Direction (PGD) or national protocol) and the operational consequences of this. The Availability of appropriate staff to operate the vaccination service, all with appropriate training completed and competence evidenced. Availability of adequate IT infrastructure and equipment.
