We wish to draw your attention to a significant increase in visits to the NHS website’s advice page on head lice and nits. The page has seen a 34% increase since the beginning of September, correlating with children returning to school.

Guidance from NHS

The NHS offers extensive guidance on identifying and treating this common issue. Key recommended treatments include wet combing, involving:

     •       Washing hair with ordinary shampoo

     •       Applying any type of conditioner generously

     •       Using a fine-toothed detection comb

     •       Repeating the process on days 1, 5, 9, and 13

     •       A final check on day 17

In light of this, we strongly advise all pharmacists to train their staff in giving accurate and effective advice on head lice and nits treatment, including wet combing and medicated options. Your proactive engagement can play a critical role in managing outbreaks and providing community care.
