What’s next?

This next stage is quite heavy but we are taking into account that December will be lighter in terms of PQS tasks.

1.  DOMESTIC ABUSE PREVENTION

This is a new element for the PQS, which is looking at domestic abuse prevention.

ALL STAFF must complete the following training unless they are exempt.

Exemption- Any staff members who have been affected by domestic abuse who do not wish to participate in the training.

Training which is required for all staff are as follows:

  a)  Domestic abuse awareness (Safe Spaces training) : CPPE and passed the quiz.

  b)  Read and understand the Ask for ANI toolkit.

  c)  Ask for ANI and UK Says No More Safe Spaces Toolkit - UK SAYS NO MORE

Please note that it is OPTIONAL to register as a Safe Space or to register to participate in Ask for ANI.

At least one person responsible for the premises must have:

  a)  Read and understood the Safe Spaces Set-up Toolkit Safe-Spaces-_-Tool-Kit-V2-_-.pdf (uksaysnomore.org)

PLEASE NOTE: The number of staff members who have not completed the training under this exemption must be declared. 

2.  ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP 

Please see details below to complete the antimicrobial stewardship element of PQS.

a)  All patient-facing pharmacy staff that provide advice on medicines must have completed the following within the last three years (between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2023)

• Infection prevention and control level 1 e-learning and assessment on elFH
• Infection prevention and control level 2 e-learning and assessment on elFH
• Antimicrobial Stewardship for community pharmacy e-learning and e-assessment on elFH HEE elfh Hub (e-lfh.org.uk)

b)  You must complete an assessment review for the following patients:

• Symptoms of a suspected UTI 
• Symptoms of upper respiratory infection

Create an action plan on how to promote antimicrobial stewardship through this process to promote safe and effective prescribing. This must be completed over a minimum of a 4-week period.

c) Target a minimum of 15 patients for the UTI element and use the treating for infection document for each consultation TYI-UTI _ pharma V1 UKHSA.pdf (rcgp.org.uk)

d)  Target a minimum of 15 patients for the upper respiratory infection element and use the treating your infection- Upper Respiratory Tract document for each consultation TYI-RTI Pharm Leaflet v9.8 UKHSA.pdf (rcgp.org.uk)

e)  Record your start and end date- Required for MYS declaration.

All patient-facing pharmacy staff that provide advice on medicines have declared that they are an antibiotic guardian and know where to access local antibiotic formulary - Antibiotic Guardian | Pledge to be an Antibiotic Guardian

Please note that no patient identifiable information should be recorded on MYS.

3.  HEALTHY LIVING PHARMACY

Although this is not part of the PQS per se, you must ensure that your premises has a Healthy living pharmacy leader and a healthy living pharmacy champion. You must conduct bi-monthly healthy living campaigns.
