Dear Member,

Health Education England (HEE) is looking to make available 3000 fully-funded Independent Prescribing placements available from September 2022.

Recently, the government implemented a plan to provide new graduates who have studied pharmacy at university with the ability to prescribe. The government's plan will create the first cohort of pharmacy IP graduates in 2026. It is crucial to think ahead and ensure you are developing your services in line with the future of pharmacy.

As an independent prescriber (IP), you will be able to increase the scope of your private clinical services in your practice and be able to write prescriptions. It will also prepare you for future NHS services which are likely to emerge requiring IPs.

What you need to do:	Done
Watch our short summary video on the application process and what to expect from the IP course
Click here to sign up to alerts from HEE for the IP course intake
What you will need to have in place before you apply:
Support of a designated medical practitioner (DMP) or designated prescribing practitioner (DPP)
Appropriate placement in a prescribing setting arranged
Evidence you meet the HEI eligibility criteria (community pharmacists are included)
Commitment to use the skill for the delivery of the NHS services as they emerge
Application process requirements (May differ depending on the University)
Last 3 fee receipts from the GPhC
Copy of your passport
Undergraduate degree certificate or full transcript
CV including – job description and current scope of practice
References from past / current employers or other healthcare professionals
Signed supporting document from DPP (they will be required to complete this document and submit it before your application deadline)
DBS check within last 3 years (not required for all Universities)
Personal statement – See video and slides for further details
Short telephone interview (in some cases)
