Dear Member,

Thank you to all of you who attended our Hypertension Case Finding Service seminar on Tuesday evening. We had a fantastic turn out with over 60 of you attending.

Our aim was to provide you with the tools and confidence to start providing the service and maximising on its potential. We urge all members to participate in the service and maximise on all NHS funding which is available.

Some top tips from the webinar:

1. Pharmacists providing the service should use the ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) overnight to familiarise themselves with how it works
2. Concentrate on identifying your own patients first and then approach the GP practice for referrals once you are confident in running the service
3. Read through the GP briefing guide to inform GPs of the service – you must send them weekly communications
4. Train your staff on how to promote the service – use the PSNC training guide and get them all to have a BP check too (even if under 40)
5. Download the promotional material available – PSNC website scroll down to resources
6. Contact your insurance provider to insure the ABPM device
7. Use the ABPM load agreements for each patient
8. Ask patients about their working patterns – adjust the settings on the ABPM monitor for night shift workers
9. Make it clear to patients they must not remove the cuff or shower (for 24 hours) whilst connected to the ABPM
10. Provide patients with a record of their reading – patient leaflet
